A few of the La Sombras members eventually went on to play for "The Kumbia Kings," for a while, or so it seems according to this article. Right before the group broke up, a wuera friend of mine that knew them well, was going to party out with them in Corpus one weekend, she took them one of my songs a beautiful love ballad called "Soy Tu Sombra." Im pretty sure they went on to record it, because I received a statement from Universal with the groups name on it, but it is was never released, probably due to the breakup of the group. Back then, songwriters who wrote songs for the Tejano market were making money, one close friend was averaging about $5,000 every three months, but since the bottom fell out, its gone down a lot. There were some sad times to though, I remember speaking on the phone with Abraham (Selena's dad) about sending her some songs for consideration, for her up coming crossover album. But unfortunately, it was not to long afterwards as I was walking to a nearby convenience store for cigarettes, that I heard the horrible breaking news, that she had been shot.
