THE IMPORTANCE OF READING FOR OUR CHILDREN!

Postby fsolis on Sun, Feb 10 2008, 11:51 AM

 The Aztec civilization was the most literate society in all of the Americas. So why do many Mexican-American children do not know how to read well? Reading is the most important key to all knowledge, and knowledge when enforced by action leads to empowerment. It is of extreme importance to La Raza, to make sure that all of our children, become good readers, because it is the key to all future success, in whatever field of employment they choose to do in life. Here is a suggestion that may help. When I was little about six years of age I began trying to read comic books, since most kids love pictures with stories. When I grew older I liked reading them them so much, that I began to buy my own comic books,so thats how I became hooked on reading. Also at about 10 years of age my grandfather, would not let me go out and play, unless I read to him about a page in Spanish out of a small book. So that is how I learned how to read Spanish. But the foundation was laid, and as a young adult I could read just about anything, even newspapers.Result, when I decided to go to college after having dropped out of high school as a young man,the people who tested me were shocked to find out, that my reading level "was well above the normal college reading level, and so was my IQ! Now I can say with pride that Superman,Batman,Donald Duck, and Bugs Bunny taught me to read, huh? And also made me smarter at the same time, dang that wascally wabbit,LOL!

"About 40% of adults have reading problems severe enough to hinder their enjoyment of reading (National Institute of Health and Human Development, 30 Years of Research: What We Now Know About How Students Learn to Read)."

That real, man! Teach the children how to read.

Children love story telling man, when you tell them a story, it's like a whole world opens up for them. It sparks an interest in them to explore. They see pictures but their imagination is far beyond the pictures, and letters grow to replace pictures, thus giving life to their imagination.

FOR TRULY A WISE MAN GIVES PROOF TO THE LIVING WORLD THAT GOD LIVES HERE ON EARTH! AND EACH NEW GENERATION NEEDS TO DO THIS FOR THEMSELVES, IF GOD'S NAME IS TO REMAIN A LIVING FORCE!

Great resources!

Unforunately, the cycle of ignorace and poverty puts barriers on some children.
It kills me to see some parents that just dont care. Ive known people to have children just and not take care of them. They drop their kids of to anyone and party their butts off. :#: :no.

 So true Normies, but if we as adults can help even one child, by teaching them the value and importance of reading and getting an education. Then maybe, we can make a difference in their world.LOL!

Great thread. Reading is universal and can be very enjoying. My little prima was telling me the other day that she reads more at home than at school because simply the books in school do not capture her interest and she's told what to read. Im glad she comes to me for recomendations of novels in her interest. No matter what anyone reads, the imagination becomes released and soon the visual will come into play through words.
