Interview with ( Niyorco ) Author of "Lock down - a Barrio tale" and "Pretty Brown".

Can you give us a brief biography about yourself?

In brief, I was simply born and raised in Port Arthur TX. a city that’s rich in different ethnic cultures where it all combines one way or another. I was somewhat of a knuckle head growing up as a teen. Did a few things here and their but nothing too serious.
My eyes opened around the age of sixteen when I started seeing older G’s who have dropped out of high school struggling to make it. I mean, some were getting into trouble and ended up getting locked up over scrapping for money. While others, were working in the hot sun doing dirty labor jobs like my dad. Time had caught up to them and with no education, much less a high school diploma, it was a rude awakening for them in the real world. The only people who made sense to me to work the labor jobs was our parents, the ones who never had the opportunities that their children had. It had finally hit me why my parents urged me to make something of myself. I began to follow their advice that you got to be a “go getter” to make it in this country, and time don’t wait for no one. I am very pleased to say that my parents struggle, is a hand in my success at life. That opened the path to me landing a career opportunity, my marriage to my lovely wife, and now my accomplishment of one day being a published author. A dream I have always wanted to come true.

At what age did you become interested in writing, what influenced you?

Good question! I’d have to say around the age of ten because it’s the age I can remember me playing with some writings. I had discovered Edgar Allan Poe’s “The raven”. I was hooked with the creativity and most of all, the visual that was painted in my head.

From what or whom do you find inspiration for your writings?

My characters, I usually create a character who has a situation and with it, more characters with matching situations grow and then, the story falls into place.

Your latest work; "Pretty Brown": What were your goals when you first started writing this novel?

Entertainment, I wanted to entertain readers and new readers with a story that they can see in their head and enjoy. The way I was when I first read Poe’s “The Raven”. Reading can be great entertainment, your mind becomes your big screen. This one in particular is pure drama.

What inspired you to write "Pretty Brown" ?

The character “Alex”, I had made him up in the situation that he wanted to move forward in life, he knew he had different options. All he needed was the encouragement, yet the drama still followed.

What impression do you want the readers to be left with after reading Pretty brown?

That no matter how bad a situation can be, once your eyes are open and you begin a path to a better future, you can still follow it. Don’t let a down fall in life get in the way of your path. The character “Alex” found his way to stay on his path ”Sandra”, helped him start. He could have made a worse decision.

You also write poetry, will we get to see a book of poetry later down the road?

I would love to have a book of poetry out. I have a concept for one, but that’s later down the road. The concept has been in my head for two years now, it’s just a matter of making time and dedicating myself to it, once I have other projects out the way. But it’s definitely on my “to do” list.

And finally, What are your plans for the future as far as writing, what can we expect to see?

More entertainment in different genre’s, not just Barrio style situations, but different, I’m working on something right now that holds a flavor of Latino yet, it will capture every ethnic possible.
