Movies & Film : What Shall I Watch???

Alright, so now that I"m finished with school I can

finally

try to catch up on some good stuff, sooooooo "What's good"?? I'm leaning more to movies I can rent, cause as we all know with the holidays dinero is kinda' tight to just be going every so many nights to the movies, so I figure there alot of movies I haven't see so maybe you all can give some ideas on where to start or what's good. Let's see the movies I've seen lately are Transformers, Vacancy, and License to Wed, so as you can tell I'm not too picky, just so long as it doesn't put me to sleep. Oh and I'll probably be watching them alone since my husband is working odd hours.

The good Cocina : favourite crockpot recipes

Do any of you cook using a slow cooker? AKA Crock Pot? I just receintly started using one. I cant belive how efficient the cooker is to use and how convenient it is for working folks. I made BBQ pork the other day and set the pot for 8 hours and when i returned from work the meat was so tender and and juicey it fell of my fork so tenderly, Anyone here use the crock pot? Any favourite recipies??

Alright, Alright, you're making people hungry here!! Kidding. I went to Kraft.com and they seem to have some pretty good recipes using a crockpot. You ever heard of using Dr. Pepper on a brisket??
No, I never heard of that I looked up the menu online.Thats strange to use two cans of Dr. Pepper but i wonder if thats for the extras kick LOL cause my dad uses beer on his meat and that fizzy taste actaully gives it falvour. Here is a a most recent. a couple weeks old. my Pops BBQ Grill all coverd in snow. yes, he left it outside this year because ther was no room in the shed, lol. You can see a little trail to the side... for thier dog, so he can go off and do his buisness in his favorite part of the yard!

Dr. Q has a theory about how to cure cancer that he can't wait to tell me.

I look around at his lab assistants, their faces a rainbow of colors intense, smart, listening. Their parents come from many parts of the world. Dr. Q has chosen them to test his theory: that a team of scientists from a diversity of backgrounds might find a cure for cancer more quickly, because each would see the problem differently.

The lab at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore we're all gathered in belongs to Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa Dr. Q. He is one of the best brain surgeons in the world, but two decades ago, his hands were picking vegetables for $22 a day. Quinones was a migrant worker, living under an old camper top in the middle of a California field.

Sometimes I would cry myself to sleep thinking, What am I doing here?' Quinones recalls. I have a cousin who told me, You're never going to be anything but a migrant worker the rest of your life.' But it just ignited this fire in my belly.

He learned dozens of jobs, with a blazing desire to be the best at whatever life offered. It was Dr. Joe Martinez Jr. who steered him toward medicine. Alfredo came to work in my lab his senior year at the University of California at Berkley," Martinez recalls. He knew nothing about the brain, but learned at an amazing rate. He was one of the two best students I ever taught.

Quinones studied math and science because he didn't have to write perfect English to do well at them. Martinez told him that with his grades, he should try for one of the very best medical schools in the country. He made it to Harvard and graduated at the top of his class.

I think what drives Alfredo is fear, Martinez says. Fear of failure.

It's OK to be afraid, Quinones says. Because you know what happens when you're afraid? You work like crazy. One thing that this country absolutely, absolutely values is hard work. And that's what he tells kids who wonder whether they can beat overwhelming odds too.

Now Dr. Q breezes into a patient's room. Aww-right! Here's my team! he shouts. His medical students gather around the bed. Quinones teaches them to treat all patients as friends, reminding them: Don't forget the human side.

And Quinones tries to remember that himself. Like his patients, he has had more than his share of uncertainty and tears in his life. Many nights his mother had no food for the table ...

DETROIT (AP)Caleb Campbell will not get a chance to play for the Detroit Lions because of a change in military policy.

Campbell was a seventh-round draft pick for the Lions in April. At the time, Army policy would have allowed the West Point graduate to serve as a recruiter if he made the team.

But a subsequent Department of Defense policy has superseded the 2005 Army policy.

In a letter to Lions president Matt Millen dated Wednesday, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jonathan P. Liba wrote that Campbell has been ordered to give up professional football for full-time traditional military duties.

Liba wrote that 2nd Lt. Campbell may ask to be released from his active duty obligations in May 2010.

Liba said Campbell was allowed to enter the draft in good faith.

McALLEN, Texas - Troops were at the ready and residents along the Gulf Coast near the Texas-Mexico border were preparing as Tropical Storm Dolly expected by forecasters to strengthen into a hurricane this week headed their way.

Hurricane warnings were issued late Monday for parts of the Texas and Mexico coasts, meaning hurricane conditions were expected in those areas by the end of Tuesday.

Dolly was expected to make landfall later this week and bring with it high winds and 10 to 20 inches of rain in coastal areas. Emergency officials feared major flooding problems and urged coastal residents to prepare. Gov. Rick Perry activated 1,200 National Guard troops and other emergency crews.

Even as far up the coast as the Houston area, Harris County officials told residents to be ready in case the storm changes course and heads their way.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami issued a hurricane warning from Brownsville north to Port O'Connor. Meanwhile, a tropical storm warning was issued from Port O'Connor to the San Luis Pass, a strait south of Galveston.

Mexico also announced a hurricane warning from Rio San Fernando north to the U.S. border. A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch were also in effect from La Pesca to Rio San Fernando.

Forecasters said Dolly was expected to make landfall late Tuesday or early Wednesday as a Category 1 hurricane, which has with sustained winds of 74 mph to 95 mph.

Texas officials said they wouldn't order evacuations along the coast unless Dolly strengthens to a Category 3, with sustained winds of at least 111 mph.

At 5 a.m. EDT Tuesday, the center of Tropical Storm Dolly was located about 295 miles southeast of Brownsville. It was moving west at about 15 mph and had maximum sustained winds near 60 mph. Tropical storm-force winds extended outward up to 160 miles.

Dolly's winds were expected to strengthen Tuesday to hurricane force, which would mean at least 74 mph.

There are about 2 million people in the Rio Grande Valley, which includes popular summer beach resort South Padre Island. Officials readied to evacuate residents in flood-prone areas and urged RV owners on South Padre to head for higher ground.

"That amount of rain will present a big flooding problem for us," said Cameron County Emergency Management Coordinator Johnny Cavazos.

Mindful of the disastrous evacuation before Hurricane Rita hit the Texas Gulf Coast in 2005 when far more people died from heat-related injuries and auto accidents fleeing the storm than from the severe weather Gov. Perry also ordered 250 buses to be staged in San Antonio. He also ordered fuel teams to be ready ...

I met someone, um, almost a year ago. We've talked off and on over the months, but only here recently since I filed a petition seeking a divorce did I start accepting lunch invitations. 13 years after her death, the Tejano star's vibes direct new young talent

More than a decade after her death, Selena's influence still reigns over a diverse crop of present-day artists.

Tejano music's premier voice was silenced March 31, 1995, taking with it the promise that was only beginning to blossom. Selena's death also left a hole in the Tejano genre that, to this day, has never truly been filled.

But through her rich, passionate voice and innovative blend of styles, Selena left a unique musical blueprint that resonates with everyone from Tejano upstarts to bona fide superstar divas.

"I remember listening to her songs and thinking about how amazing she sounded," says BeyoncÃ©. "I could only imagine what her career would be like today."

Others, too, will always wonder. But several artists look to Selena's songs and infectious spirit for constant motivation and inspiration. Here are a few:

Paula DeAnda

Her sound: DeAnda, 18, scored big with pop hits Doing Too Much, Walk Away and Easy, which made her an MTV TRL favorite. She's working on a second album and hopes to have a new single to the radio by summer, with full release in stores before November.

Selena influence: DeAnda was born in San Angelo but moved to Corpus Christi when she was 12. She started singing Selena songs at a young age and performing them at local parties and events. "I probably didn't sing the songs right, but I just loved her music so much," DeAnda says.

Favorite Selena song: "I think Como la Flor. She had that big intro for it (live); she sang it really slow, without the music, and then the music comes in. That was really dramatic."

A unique voice: "She's definitely one of a kind. She set an example for all Latinas out there, that they can do it, they can make it big. She's an amazing singer. Nobody can ever be like her. Nobody can top her."

Karina Nistal

Her sound: A mishmash of styles â electro, hip-hop, reggaetÃ³n, pop â that has her poised for a breakout.

Selena influence: Her street sensibility and bilingual tunes have earned her nicknames from the "Latin Mary J. Blige" to the "hip-hop Selena."

Favorite Selena song: "CÃ³mo Quisiera is definitely one I found myself singing a lot. It's about a lost love that cannot be recovered. That song was performed so well with the mariachi feel. My favorite English one from her is Captive Heart."

Henry's understanding of the discrepancy between his words and his deeds never led him to act differently, to his slaves' sorrow. Throughout the Revolutionary period he added slaves to his holdings, and even at his death, unlike some other Virginia planters, he freed not a one. Nevertheless Triumph of the American Nation quotes Henry calling slavery "as repugnant to humanity as it is inconsistent with the Bible and destructive of liberty," without ever mentioning that he held slaves. American Adventures devotes three whole pages to Henry, constructing a fictitious melodrama in which his father worries, "How would he ever earn a living?" Adventures then tells how Henry failed at storekeeping, "tried to make a living by raising tobacco," "started another store," "had three children as well as a wife to support," "knew he had to make a ...

I bought this book couple weeks ago through Amazon at a very cheap price "like new" for a little under $6.00 ... that's including shipping. The new ones were 'sold out'... I got this though a company named Bookswim under Amazon.. the book is in good shape. has a few marker highlights throughout the book, but that's okay. Plus shopping for Books on Amazon, they show you other similar ones you might be interested in that you might want to check out... usually they hit it right on the spot showing you books that seem interesting.
This is the second time I've bought books though Amazon.

Wow, I just figured the reason for bringing those songs back was just for good ol' times sake... in a sense it does feel that way. but the info and detial you just went into explaning is also pretty interesting. I remember watching Mando on his kyboard on a old Johnny Canales show segment, and his keys had knobs and levers.. I just googled to make sure, and it does sound like the mini moog. I recognize a lot of those songs too... I thought they were the originals so I didnt pay too much mind to that album. but thanks for clearing that up, those were some of thier really good hits back in the day.

"Si quiere Dios" newer version sounds a lot better then the original. I heard it on thier myspace.

That's what a lot of people thought, and that was part of it, a lot of fans whose old cassettes and LPs were worn out , or had lost their original CDs had been asking La Mafia to put out the old material, not realizing that the only way they could do that would be to completely re record it, so part of the reason was to give those fans what they were asking for, another reason was to introduce the older "Puro Tejano" music to the newer generations, as many of La Mafia's fans came on board in the 90s and weren't familiar with it, especially those in Mexico. I've seen quite a few Mafia fans clamoring for more of their older stuff after hearing that album, they are emailing each other MP3s (yeah I know it's not exactly legal) of some of the older out of print stuff . I talked to one Tejana who is 25 who told me that she absolutely loved the song "SoyTuyo" and and never heard it until they re recorded it.

Yeah, I wish the radio stations would play the newer version of "Si Quiere Dios" because it is awesome, and also so that Mando would get more of the royalties (other than the ones he gets as artist and producer) instead of EMI Latin LOL
