saying "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" ???

Postby brwn_eyes on Mon, Dec 19 2005, 12:22 PM

Okay...i'm a server at Red Lobster and our directors have always adivsed us to say HAPPY HOLIDAYS instead of Merry Christmas just so we don't offend anyone since we don't always know what their beliefs are.

well...i've stopped saying that because the other day some lady yelled at me and slammed her hand on the table and told me i was wrong and that it's Merry Christmas! :whoa!

I guess there's a lot of commotion goin' around, it's been on the news and what not about all that stuff. It's happened multiple times in our restauraunt! and when we do say "Merry Christmas" they tell us thank you for not saying Happy Holidays. :o0:

what's all your opinions...i guess i just don't know how to take it! I mean..i personally would rather say Merry Christmas but sometimes i try to keep it safe and not offend people.

what do you think?

dang, that lady should't have yelled at you

I think whatever has been going on the past few years over this issue of "happy Holiday" or "Merry Christmass" is a very sad thing to me..and I am so ashamed of this country for getting to this point. The chirstmass holiday is all about Jeasus Christ, but, we live in this money hungry hegemonic capitolist society where they turned this whole season into a marketing monster. These days, it seems like it's all about Sanata Clause and getting into the stores in time for the best sales and bargins. Dont get wrong, I dont think their is anything wrong with a good sale, i love bargins and deals, but to twist this whole season around for celebrating "happy holidays" and not the true meaning is retarded to me.These times symbolizes the birth of christ so ...we give to eachother and give gifts, not to celebrate sales and bargins..so, i dont understand why these assholes want to take away the true meaning of this season?! If these agnostics and atheiest people want to celebrate they should have a happy holidays in the summer and leave us christians alone.(IMO) Image Unfortunately, it is a problem, I would still say Merry Christmass, however, if I was in a work environemnt I wouldn't go there, too many crazies out their that get offended easy..

I think the Happy Holidays thing
is more of a political thing. same as work enviroment
but dang it is getting a tad bit out of hand
mercy!
In America it is very hard to get around
Christmas and what it signifies to the majority
of people.
What a world we live in right?

Wow, that is something else. well I personally wouldn't say anything either. if people are gonna be scrooges or too sensitive about the Holidays, I would just say have a good day or evening. you have a lot of patients though. I stopped working in public places like stores and resturants by the age of 20... because I do not see people as 'customers', I see them as anyone else... man, I would of said something like "happy holidays asshole!!!" hahahaha

I would just stick with "have a good day" though

I stick to saying Happy Holidays or saying Merry Christmas to people I know celebrate Christmas. It doesn't really bug me I guess. I don't really celebrate Christmas for religious reasons, I suppose it's always just been another Holiday to me, a time to be able to see family, etc. But since I respect other peoples beliefs and I know some people celebrate different Holidays, etc I try to stick with saying Happy Holidays. :?

I've been working for the same company for several yrs. (different states) so I know more or less what each customer prefers. It is hard though for those that I am not familiar with, so I just try to be professional and keep it as good evening, afternoon, etc., Otherwise for those that I do know and that know me I say Merry Christmas and treat the season for the real meaning...the birth of Christ, I make no effort to hide it. THIS is the original meaning, but of course some ass-wipe figured he could make some good money off it and capitalized on it. Money is something crazy, sabes...
As for those making a big scene about saying Merry Christmas...then don't say it if it bothers you so much! It makes me so mad because they don't want to say it and yet they don't want anyone else saying it either or they get their shorts in a bunch!
Brown Eyes, as for that lady getting upset with you, she was out of line. I realize her frustration, it upsets me too sometimes, but she should have realized that sometimes it's orders from "upstairs" and sometimes we have to obide by those rules.
Well, that's my opinion ppl. Either way...MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!! :xmr: :xmaswindow:

But i guess i also respect what people think but no need to yell at me just cause i don't know what you celebrate!

I'm just sticking to Merry Christmas now...(she kinda scared me..lol). I guess if i get yelled at for that then....well..i hope i don't cause i don't know what i would say! :o0: Sorry i guess...lol.

So much for the holiday spirit!

the people who founded this country where christians/protesants, they just carried the tradition. Why they changed their minds these days, i dont know..

Personally, i think there are much worser things to be upset or offended about than saying Merry Christmass or Happy Hoilidays..just turn on your radios and its all sex.." my humps..my humps ..whatcha gonna do with all that breast..all that breast...im gonna get make u scream...make u scream" haha
