British teacher faces 40 lashes in Sudan

Postby iPedro on Sat, Dec 01 2007, 10:37 AM

So this British teacher in Sudan asked the kids of her class to choose a name for a so called 'classroom Teddy bear'. "Mohamed" was the chosen name and now ( some ) the people want her punished because they see it as a mockery or an insult I suppose. They want her to be punished... the punishment is 40 lashes or serveral months in prison. ta' cabron! :o0:

She's currently serving 15 days in jail.

British teacher freed in Sudan teddy row

<img src="http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/6418/britishteachersudanzw4.jpg" width="230" align="right">A British woman jailed in Sudan for insulting religion has been released and taken to the British embassy in Khartoum. Teacher Gillian Gibbons was sentenced to 15 days in prison for allowing children at a private English school to name a teddy bear Mohammed -- the same name as the Muslim Prophet. Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir pardoned Gibbons after two British Muslims flew to Khartoum to petition for the teacher's release. British officials have welcomed her amnesty as a victory for "common sense" and say she will return to Britain "soon". Crowds of protesters had marched in Khartoum demanding a tougher sentence for Gibbons, with some calling for her death.
