¡ASK A MEXICAN! who came up with Tex-Mex or New Mexican food names?

Postby iPedro on Sat, Dec 08 2007, 9:01 AM

Por Gustavo Arellano
Dear Mexican: I was born in beautiful El Paso, and my parents are from Juaritos. I always wondered why Mexican restaurants en los Estados Unidos use queso amarillo—which I associate with los Estados Unidos—on their food instead of queso asadero or queso Oaxaca, which taste so much better. And who came up with Tex-Mex or New Mexican food names?

El Minero de Albuquerque

Dear Albuquerque Miner: Silly chuco! You and your ilk are so advanced in the Reconquista que se le olvidan that most non-Latinos still don’t know Spanglish! So, before I answer tu pregunta, a translation note for non-wabs: “Juaritosâ€

:cool: You are making me hungry Huaraches. Tex-Mex, and all Raza food is some of the best tasting food in the world! I like to think that God gave La Raza, the best taste for food. Our food is tasty, very,very tasty, and delicious! Now I think I will go eat me a couple of tacos! :turu:

"non-wabs" :lol: I hadn't heard "wabs" in a while.
Tex-Mex or not, it is sure good!! But yeah, food from here and food from Mexico is sure different, then it also depends on what part of Mexico you are referring to. Speaking of cerveza-I'm thirsty! :lol: .mrgreen.

Just incase you guys haven't heard of ASK A MEXICAN:

¡Ask a Mexican! is a nationally syndicated weekly column written by Gustavo Arellano published by Orange County's alternative weekly OC Weekly. It was first published in 2004 as a one-time spoof, but it ended up becoming one of the weekly's most popular columns.

Every week, readers would submit their questions based on Mexicans, including their customs, labor issues, and illegal immigration. Arellano responds to these questions in a politically incorrect manner often starting with the words "Dear Gabacho."

On May 1, 2007, Reuters featured the column on its news homepage under the "Oddly Enough" heading.

He's one the coolest Paisano on the internets. :paz:

Agreed, we do have the best tasting food in the world, probably. Id say Oriental food comes in second. Pasta is overrated :twisted: I thought the article was interesting and it made me hungry reading it too. :lol:
