14th year anniversary Northridge Earthquake

Postby chicana323scla on Thu, Jan 17 2008, 10:46 PM

All I have to say about this day its that it was the most scariest day of my life, and I hope that I don't have to go thru something like this ever again! It was 4:31 when Los Angeles shook, I was 10 at the time, I was sleeping with my mom because my twin sisters slept over my aunts house. I felt the room shook and I pulled my moms hair! The tv fell on the bed, and then everything went blank! Then it was over, my mom was crying histerically, my sisters were somewhere near downtown and she had no way to contact them to see if they were ok! The streets were chaotic! It looked like it was the end of the world! Finally we got in contact with my sisters and they were ok... We slept on our porch for 1 month with our neighboors after that we slept in my mothers room for 1 whole year after that. It really was a very tramautic day for me as a child! I just hope that I don't have to go thru that ever again! But unfortunately it will happen again! Lets be prepared guys!!!

Wow, I remember that... I was about 16 and it was all over the news here in Michigan. I can only imagine what was going through your mind at that age... and your family too. And then not being able to contact your sisters... I'm sure that was a scary moment to have gone through...

it was the most horrible thing we had gone through i was 13 and
we were in van nuys 10 miles from the epicenter. Man i was in my parents room sleeping in the floor. As soon as it started shaking i jumped up started screaming and it was dark then most nights...which was horrible. We had a big light next door and it always shined in.
My parents got my baby bro and then my dad went to get my bro he was sleeping in the living room and we were all under the door. As soon as it stopped we open are door and we saw all our neighbor's asking if everybody was alright. We had my cousins in the apartments next to us so they came down to our house since they were in the second story. then my uncle came walking from his house 2 blocks down and then brought his family over to our place.
That night we slept in the living room and the other slept in there cars or outside in mattresses. It was a horrible experience.
We would cook outside in the bbq since we had no gas or light.
then the aftershocks that sucked.
But thank god nobody was hurt.
