The Mexican-American activists who took part in the Brown Power movement of the 60s & 70s "appropriated" the term as a badge of pride and honor, and has now come into acceptance and widespread usage by millions of Mexican-Americans.

One of the likely source of the word is traced to the “30s and 40sâ€

Concerning the article, the source is your's truly, I wrote it. Of course I knew some of it from pass downs, and other stuff I gathered from reading here or there, tu sabes.

In regards to "chocala," ~> I have put together a CALO A to Z vocabulario, but I have it all on notes and line paper, so now I need to type it all up and post it up.

this is interesting.
i've always used the word choya, and theres some people, mexicans, that have never heard it before.
so does cholo/chola fit into it?
If you get a chance, take it.
If it changes your life, let it!

Nope, cholo and chola derive from the apodage which Spaniards and others placed on the Natives. Cholo at one time implied ~> "Indio Borracho" (drunken Indian).

Ah alright good stuff. A lot of the calo slang was used in the south Tejas where half my familia is from and a lot of the words I recognise.

Thank you for sharring your articles with us.
