THE "GRID" TO REPLACE THE NET!

Postby fsolis on Sun, May 18 2008, 12:05 PM

 ‘The Grid’ Could Soon Make the Internet Obsolete, I was surfing around trying to find out some information on when 32 bit computers will become obsolete, because a friend that works at Best buy told me that everything will eventually be switching over to a 64 bit operating system in the future. He also told me that not many people knew that some of the computers they are buying today may have to be replaced within a few years, so he recommended I purchase a pc that has at least 4 gigabytes of memory, so I am looking at buying a 64 bit quad-core pc. As I was searching for information to clarify this problem. I then ran across a fantastic article on a computer network system that will soon make the internet system we know as "the net,"obsolete. It is called the grid. Below is a link to the mind blowing article.

"THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds. At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, “the grid” will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds." - THE TIMES ONLINE

The bits I read on 64bit Operating system is that computers will be able to handle a lot more memory. Right now, if you install 4gb of ram, your PC will only recognize 3.3 or 3.5 GB because of WindowsXP 32 bit system. 64 bit takes care of this problem and plus, software opens up and runs a lot faster. those are just some of the benefits.
