WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The spokesman who defended President Bush's policies through Hurricane Katrina and the early years of the Iraq war is now blasting his former employers, saying the Bush administration became mired in propaganda and political spin and at times played loose with the truth.

In excerpts from a 341-page book to be released Monday, Scott McClellan writes on Iraq that Bush "and his advisers confused the propaganda campaign with the high level of candor and honesty so fundamentally needed to build and then sustain public support during a time of war."

"[I]n this regard, he was terribly ill-served by his top advisers, especially those involved directly in national security," McClellan wrote.

McClellan also sharply criticizes the administration on its handling of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

"One of the worst disasters in our nation's history became one of the biggest disasters in Bush's presidency," he wrote. "Katrina and the botched federal response to it would largely come to define Bush's second term."

I used to cringe my teeth watching this guy when he did those media press conferences.
Being that he was so loyal to Bush... this is big.

He's got some balls since his whole career was based on being so loyal to the Bush regime. he's all over the TV now. maybe he needed the money.

The only thing I had a problem with is why did he wait until now to state everything we already knew? It does not say much for his credibility to state that he was against the admin but as press sec. he basically sugar coated sheet and made Bush look like a "awesome guy" Although to play devils advocate for a split second in the same breath he also stated that he felt lied too, that he was misinformed by those involved directly with National security and feels that he cannot trust anyone.
Hmm the question now is will this affect the up and coming elections for reps?

This book shouldn't really surprise anyone he's just repeating things that everyone who isn't some "die hard i'm in denial Republican" already knew....McClellan is a smart man he saw an opportunity to make money and jumped on it honestly you can't hate on the man for doing so being that most of would have probably done the same. [Peace!]

Surprising that it's coming from bush's bubble of 'loyal' friends. im sure he's lost a lot of his 'politcal friends' already. and I'm sure he knew the consequences coming from publishing this book. So far I haven't read or heard of any rebutting the facts presented int he book...yet.

I might have missed it, he was gonna be on Tim Russert's "Meet the Press" today. Anyone watch it? I think it comes on early... 1pm eastern time. ah well.
