Happy 4th of July!!

Postby caker on Wed, Jul 02 2008, 2:37 PM

Alright, the 4th of July is upon us people!! I know, many of us mainly celebrate those holidays we associate with our family history, our heritage, but here where I'm from we also take great PRIDE and celebrate those holidays that remind us of how far we have come, and what we have achieved, not just us, but our parents and grandparents. We celebrate those things that make our country great. I know some will disagree and while many of us don't agree with the current course of our country (I for one), I do believe God has Blessed us with so much: food to eat, a place to live, family, friends, the ability to speak our mind, to practice our chosen religion, and not one that has been forced upon us. We gather with family and friends every year and usually have a huge get together-it is an all day affair (cooking, drinking, having fun with the kids, enjoying each other's company), and later that night we gather together and watch the fireworks display. Most everyone does, right?! So let's hear it, what do you like to make? Do you try to add a twist every year? Do you make something special. I know we have some GREAT cooks here @ Juarol, so come on share a little something with the rest of us. And have a HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!

This is my treat that I'm sharing, it is called a Red, White & Blue Ice Cream Float. It's simple easy and especially nice if it's hot where you're at. Enjoy!

1/2 gallon Vanilla Ice Cream
1 package Frozen Blueberries
6 cans (12 oz.) Big Red soda (or something with a similar taste)
1 can Whip Cream
1 cup Pecan Pieces
1 jar (4 oz.) Cherries with stems

You will need 6 tall (16-ounce) glasses or mugs-place them in the freezer for 30 minutes before using them. I rinse them in water and freeze them-it gives them a nice frosty effect and helps keep the ice cream chilled.
Layer 1 large scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, 2 Tablespoons frozen blueberries, 1 more scoop of ice cream and 2 Tablespoons blueberries.

SLOWLY pour COLD Big Red Soda over the ice cream and blueberries.

Top each float with whipped cream and one Tablespoon pecan pieces and a cherry. :88:

What's your recipe?! :jumm: :read: :hungry:

Don't worry, Big Red isn't a must. Lots of stores sell their version or store brand that tastes similar to Big Red-you can use that. Some people I know don't care for Big Red, so they use Coke or Pepsi or whatever it is they like. It's really a matter of what YOU like or what you have ACCESS to. :paz: Rene, have a great weekend, have fun and we'll 'see' you when you get back. Cuidate hermano! :paz: Diana that sucks, how dare they have you work when you should be partying like there's no tomorrow!! :doh!:  Well either way, everybody enjoy yourselves, I know I will!!

As for the rest of you, come one, surely you guys cook out, have your twist on something good, or have a 'SPECIAL' drink you can share-maybe so we won't remember what we did the night before. :LMAO:

^^^ I'm a big fan of Big Red so when I visit family in Texas thats all I usually drink.

When I bbq I usually grill up skirt steak aka fajitas and it can be fatty so I try to remove most of the fat leaving just enough so that the the carne has that extra flavor. I start preparing the meat a day before the the bbq what I do is get one of those aluminum turkey pans and pour anywhere from 1-2 bottles of Sweet Baby Ray's Honey and Jalapeno bbq sauce into the pan and add lemon juice (5-10 lemons depending on how much meat your using) I stir the sauce and juice then I add the meat to the pan and let it soak for an hour in the frig then I take the pan out and coat the meat in a dry rub I use "Rudy's Rub" but any regular seasoning salt will do after the meat is coated with the rub put the meat back in the pan cover it with foil and let it set in the frig until your ready to grill.

well this year were going camping out to the coast for the 4th of july, very exciting since this is ma first time camping :D :D :D

as for what i do every 4th of july we usaully do mole or somethin, or enchiladas but i think that some of us know how to make mole and enchiladas right? i would write down the recipe but mine is confidential sorry

but the recipe i will share is my pancake recipe :D yummy

pancake mix((from scratch))

12 C. sifted flour
4 C. instant dry powdered milk
3/4 C. baking powder
3/4 C. sugar
2 T. salt

mix all those ingredients together with milk or with water as much needed to make it thick but not to thick. Add less then 1/4 of Syrup or honey to the batter((The Honey/Syrup will give it a sweet taste, makin them really good))((for thinner pancakes add more water then the dry ingredients))

simple recipe i know, but the pancakes are jus so darn good when you add the syrup to the batter, the pancakes get a sweet taste to them, kinda like Aunt Jamima Pancakes except without bieng premade, and a bit better depending on what kind of syrup you use, i reccamend maple syrup very good with pancakes, and the best part is that you can put as much syrup as you want when they are already done, they taste sweet but not to sweet, i make em for ma family on every holiday yup yup :D

almost forgot Have a happy and safe 4th of july :D

Happy 4th of July everyone!! So far so good, just about to get ready to head out to the fireworks display-I hope to get some great pics. Plenty of beer, and drinks, chilled watermelon, the burgers came out GREAT, well everything did!
Today being 4th of July, it brings to mind some people that I hold dear to me that are in the military, so for them where ever they are I send a special prayer for God to return them safely home to their families.
