La Sombra was the first concert/baile that I ever went to back 88' and man did they put on one hell of a show. I remember the cheezy ass red oufits they had on it look like someone went off on them with the bedazzler and the long puffy hair to think I thought that was a good look, but hey what did I know I was only 7.

LOL. I was 9 when I first saw them in concert. I seen them a few times thereafter they were hands down one of my favouite bands. I know most of their songs by heart :blushing: Gavino is like 5 ft tall and his big ass hair made him a like 5'5.

Another one.... A little out of topic sorry, but Jamie Y Los Chamacos were from that era and they got down " Linda Morenitaaaaa ...sabes que te quiero, con todo el corazon.. Those were good old days, the best days...

Yeah those were the gold old days ah the memories. I wonder if La Sombra still play the last time they were in Idaho was about 6yrs I didn't get to go watch them because I was stuck working I know Jaime y los chamacos still get down I saw them last September at Grahams Central Station the only thing I didn't like is that they haven't come out with any new music, but hey I rather listen to they're oldies any day over all of the newer junk genres :paz:

Fernando, that was the same year that we got to see them for the first time. Normies, I dont think we have that picture anymore, lol. but it was a trip. I learned to play bass because of these guys. Their bass player, Harvey Gonzales was the best bass player around as far as I was concerned. His brother Jose "Pepper" Gonzales was the guitar player -- together, they kicked some ass. I got a chance to chat with Harvey at one of thier gigs back when when I was 19 years. that was the coolest shit ever. how many Musicos can say they have met their idols they grew up listening to.

I read buzz on myspace last year that they were doing a reunion tour. Get all the old guys back. even Tiger Diaz lol. but never heard anything else about all that.

Who would of thought the two keyboard players would go on to form part of the original Kumbia Kings. lol.

 A few of the La Sombras members eventually went on to play for "The Kumbia Kings," for a while, or so it seems according to this article. Right before the group broke up, a wuera friend of mine that knew them well, was going to party out with them in Corpus one weekend, she took them one of my songs a beautiful love ballad called "Soy Tu Sombra." Im pretty sure they went on to record it, because I received a statement from Universal with the groups name on it, but it is was never released, probably due to the breakup of the group. Back then, songwriters who wrote songs for the Tejano market were making money, one close friend was averaging about $5,000 every three months, but since the bottom fell out, its gone down a lot. There were some sad times to though, I remember speaking on the phone with Abraham (Selena's dad) about sending her some songs for consideration, for her up coming crossover album. But unfortunately, it was not to long afterwards as I was walking to a nearby convenience store for cigarettes, that I heard the horrible breaking news, that she had been shot. :poundingfists:

^ That is mighty interesting, Frank. it would of been cool if they had released the song. Tony's sister did a lot of the writing for pretty much thier whole career. I think her last song was "sin ti" that she wrote for them. she officially retired writing songs for the band I suppose. And I think they wanted to try different elements to their music too.

Apparently the band Oasis were the original creators of the hit song El Sapo, but if you ask me La Sombra version of the song is better :paz:
